Built by the 10th Governor of Kentucky Thomas Metcalfe in 1814, Forest Retreat is one of the most well preserved homes displaying classic federal architecture. Named by Henry Clay on a visit with the governor Clay is quoted as describing the rolling tree canopied lawn as a "veritiable Forest Retreat". Andrew Jackson visited the governor in true southern style when traveling by horse and buggy to his inauguration, having dinner with him in the dining room of the main house. Neighboring with Daniel Boone's last Kentucky home place, Forest Retreat makes for a perfect place to land after a long day of site seeing in the heart of Kentucky's historic buffalo trail, and horse country. Listed on the national historic register as a historic district, there are 22 acres with 3 homes for your convenience and leisure.
